WCW: Simone Biles (Gymnastics GOAT)
It’s not often you have a chance to witness mind-boggling athletic feats TWICE in one week! And then again, it’s not often you have a chance to see highly gifted athletes who appear only ‘once-in-a-lifetime’. Fortunately, we can witness both through Simone Biles, the gymnastics GOAT (greatest of all time)!
This week’s Women Crush Wednesday goes to this resilient young woman. Her accomplishments make her one of the most singular dominant athletes of our times.
Doing ‘GOAT’ Things
During the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics competition, Biles performed two historical moves. One was a double twisting-double somersault dismount from the balance beam, and a triple twisting-double somersault during a floor exercise. You may be wondering why these moves are historical.
Consider this, no one in recorded gymnastics history has landed a double-double dismount from the balance beam. Secondly, Biles landed a triple twisting-double somersault on the floor. A female gymnast has NEVER performed this move in competitions.
I don’t know about you, but Simone Biles is the Gymnastics GOAT. She deserves to wear the GOAT crown.
And the best part about this point is that Simone Biles knows she’s the Gymnastics GOAT too!
Activism
The six-time national champion and 4-time Olympic medalist isn’t doing GOAT things only during gymnastic competitions. Biles uses her voice in an effort to ignite change within USA Gymnastics and shed light on important social topics.
For example, Biles recently called out USA Gymnastics for not protecting her and other athletes in the organization from sexual abuse. In an interview on Good Morning America, Biles shared how attending therapy sessions and taking anti-anxiety medication helped her work through the traumatic event.
Keep making history, Simone Biles! Keep doing GOAT things!
