Mental Health: Therapy 101, Getting Started

Mental Health: Therapy 101, Getting Started

The death of a family member, a sexual assault, addiction, and just living as a brown or black person in America are all reasons you may consider therapy. For me it was the effects left behind from a brother who was murdered and a mother who died too young and too soon and all the highs and disappointing lows in life in general. Whatever your reason, speaking with a professional could be the thing that opens your life up to wonderful possibilities you never thought you’d see. In the realist and soulful lyrics of Erykah Badu:

Bag lady you gone hurt your back
Dragging all them bags like that
I guess nobody ever told you
All you must hold onto, is you, is you, is you
One day all them bags gon’ get in your way
One day all them bags gon’ get in your way

I said one day all them bags gon’ get in your way
One day all them bags gon’ get in your way, so pack light

  2. When should a person seek therapy?
  3. How do I find a therapist?
  4. How do you choose the right person?

We will cover these questions and much more! Tune in May 26th for the next episode of This is Allison – The Podcast.
