Growing up I watched my mom complete very detailed craft projects. She did everything from needlepoint, gift baskets, flower arrangements, to painting figurines. Her true gift was sewing. One of my favorite memories from childhood is going to the fabric store, Piece Goods. I remember how the tables slanted down, the bright orange plastic chairs, the pattern books, and cabinets full of paper patterns. My mother was an excellent seamstress and could sew anything! I watched her as she made my summer short sets, Debutante gown, Blue Revue gown, and a wedding dress. Nothing was basic about these intricate creations. She took her time beading the silk and satin fabric and applying beaded appliques.

Naturally, I was a crafty kid and now a crafty adult. I truly believe growing up crafty contributed to my creativity which I think is one of my gifts. Fast forward to today. I have a few hobbies but my favorite is photography. My love for photography started in middle school, I continued in college and have a decent portfolio from those years. Some of my best pictures were taken before digital processing when I had to process my photos in actual lightrooms using chemical baths! Life went on and I became a working adult doing the career thing and I picked up my camera here and there but nothing serious. Recently I’ve fallen back in love with photography. It all started with a book idea I have and being a DIY type of woman, I wanted to save money and photograph my subjects instead of hiring someone. I’ve spent many weekends on improving my skills. At this stage in my life, I think it’s important to have a hobby. I enjoy photography and love the joy it brings to others. I’m capturing moments and creating memories. We can never get those moments back but we can look back and hopefully remember that moment in time.
