Party of One

Party of One

You’ve heard or experienced the following when planning a trip with others:

  • My funds are tight right now
  • I’m a baller on a budget
  • I hate to do this but I have to cancel

I’m guilty of at least one of these! For varied reasons, at some point you may have to consider taking that trip, eating at that new restaurant, or heading to a concert by yourself. Life keeps going and time waits for no one. You should never negate the things you want to do because someone else can’t participate. You may have to take baby steps to get to the point of traveling or eating alone but it will be well worth the experience. If you feel comfortable you can always meet another solo traveler at your destination. I’m ok with going to the movies alone and even traveling nationally alone. However, for some reason, I don’t like eating alone! I mean, what am I supposed to do while I wait for my food? Twiddle my thumbs, read a book, look out the window? I’ve raised this question amongst friends and their answer was text or look through my phone. To that, I say, absolutely not! Technology is a blessing and a curse. I like taking a break from my phone and this means during a meal as well. What did people do while dining alone before there were mobile phones? You can probably tell, I think about this a lot! LOL

Anyway, I can babble on and on about this but I want to know how you feel. Do you eat or travel alone? What tips do you have for solo travel and dining?
